Frequently asked questions
What does the free evaluation involve?
A short online session, usually around 30 minutes. We look at where your child is now, what they are aiming for, and what is getting in the way. You get an honest view of whether tuition will help. There is no charge and no card details are taken.
How do you select your tutors?
Every applicant goes through the same three stages. First an application and CV covering their academic background, qualifications and teaching experience. Then an interview and a sample lesson, assessed on lesson planning, organisation and delivery, how clearly they explain a difficult idea, and how they engage a pupil. Finally verification: right to work in the UK, PVG scheme membership, academic qualifications and professional references. Only tutors who complete every stage join the team.
What if the tutor isn’t the right fit?
Tell us. If after your first lesson you feel the match is wrong, contact your academic mentor and we will arrange a transfer to another tutor. Getting the pairing right matters more to us than defending the first choice.
Do tutors set homework and give feedback?
Yes, on the Pro and Elite plans only. Tutors set weekly homework unless you ask them not to, and it is reviewed in the following lesson so questions get answered. Written feedback follows every lesson in the Google Classroom portal.
How is my child’s progress monitored?
We set a baseline at the first session by looking at recent class assessments and where they currently sit. After that we track weekly homework, lesson feedback and class test results, and adapt the teaching to what those show.
Which subjects and levels do you cover?
Maths and Physics, from S1 through to Higher. In S1 to S3 that means building the foundations of both subjects during Broad General Education. From S4 it means National 5 and Higher, taught against the Qualifications Scotland course specification. If you need a subject we don’t currently cover, tell us and we will say so straight rather than stretch to fit.
Are lessons online or in person?
Online, one-to-one, so we can work with families anywhere in Scotland and fit lessons around school, work and travel.
What is your cancellation policy?
On the Pro and Elite plans, yes: with at least four hours’ notice we move the lesson free of charge and find a time that suits. Essential does not include rescheduling. On any plan, less than four hours’ notice means the lesson is charged in full, because the slot has been held and the tutor has prepared for it. If a pupil does not appear, the tutor waits twenty minutes before the lesson counts as taken.
What is your payment policy?
It depends on the plan. Essential is pay as you go and will be settled prior to the lesson taking place. Pro and Elite are invoiced monthly and paid in advance, due within 7 days, and nothing is paid through this website. Late or outstanding payment means lessons are postponed and the reserved slot may be offered to another family, though we do not charge interest.
How do you handle my child’s data?
We collect only what we need to teach and to contact you, we store it securely, and we set out exactly what we hold and for how long in our privacy policy.
